About Y Academy Press

Who we are

Y Academy Press is an independent publishing imprint built on a simple premise: a book is worth publishing only if the work behind it can stand up to scrutiny. We publish trade nonfiction, and textbooks, each produced to the standard of its own field rather than a single house template stretched to fit.

Y Academy Press is founded and directed by Dr. Youssef Ahmad Youssef, a professor and head of the credentialing body CIMMO. The Press holds its own ISBN prefix through Library and Archives Canada — a distinction that lets every title we publish carry Y Academy Press as its publisher of record, not a platform’s imprint standing in for one.

Our name carries the Academy’s own motto: Ad Ingenium — toward ingenuity. It describes what we ask of every manuscript we take on, and what we ask of ourselves in producing it.

Why we exist

Most authors face a narrow choice: the slow, uncertain gate of traditional publishing, or the unedited speed of self-publishing. Y Academy Press was founded to offer a third path an imprint with a real editorial pipeline, house formatting built for each category of work, and pricing that reflects what production actually costs, not what the market will bear.

We hold our own name to the same standard we ask of our authors: say the true thing, including the unwelcome one; let agreement be earned by reasons; mark the difference between what is established, what is reasoned, and what is merely plausible.

What we publish

  • Trade nonfiction — general-audience books, formatted for readers rather than reviewers.
  • Textbooks — course-ready texts with learning objectives, key terms, and structured review material.

Each format has its own house specification, built and maintained specifically for that category of work, not a single template applied indiscriminately across all four.

How a manuscript becomes a book

Every manuscript that enters production passes through four editorial stages: developmental review of the argument and structure, structural and line editing for flow and clarity, copyediting for mechanics and consistency, and a final proofreading pass before publication. Nothing is signed off silently, and nothing skips a stage because a deadline is close.

How a manuscript becomes a book

Y Academy Press operates under a stated ethical charter, not an implied one. Two commitments are non-negotiable:

  • Transparency about AI involvement. Where AI tools are used anywhere in a manuscript’s development, that use is disclosed on a defined gradient — not concealed, softened, or left for a reader to guess at.
  • No AI-undetectable output. We will not produce writing designed to pass as purely human-authored when it isn’t. This is a line we hold on principle, not a workaround we look for.

Confidence is stated plainly, limits are disclosed rather than papered over, and verification happens before a claim reaches the page — not after a reader catches it.
